Description
YOU TOO CAN COMMISSION MIKE TO PAINT YOUR VERY OWN ORIGINAL OF YOUR FAVOURITE STEAM LOCOMOTIVE EITHER BRITISH OR AMERICAN, A SOUND INVESTMENT FROM WHOM MANY REGARD AS BRITAIN'S LEADING TRANSPORT ARTIST. JUST E-MAIL mike@transportartist.co.uk
The driver has a last minute check of the motion as the prototype 4.6.0 King class No 6000 King George V waits the right away at Paddington with a down express for the West Country. A driver of a steam locomotive in those days was very much an individual and his judgement was second only to the signalman in determining the running of a train to the timetable.
The year is 1938 so the engine carries the old Great Western livery and above the buffer-beam is mounted the bell presented to the locomotive after its successful visit to the USA some years previously where its performance for an engine of its size astounded American observers.
Painted for a client in acylics about 10 years ago but now I would use oils to heighten the contrasts and smoke effects.
To commission an oil painting of your favourite loco, British, American or even French, at your favourite location please visit my web-site at www.transportartist.co.uk or e-mail me at mike@transportartist.co.uk. Prices about 2500.

love that you have the man looking this direction wonderful! and the magnificent work!
Mike Jeffries replied:
Thanks again Kim, the man on the platform looking directly out of the picture somehow involves the observer, I don't know why but I think it works.

You really caught my eye with a train... Been riding steam trains since 1935, whenever I get the chance. You even caught the "oily" look a lot of them have. Looks close to photographic, if this was years ago, it would have looked exactly like some prints in the 30's and 40's of operating trains.... Am going to v tweet this to over 757 followers, bet some will like it as much as I do....
Mike Jeffries replied:
It wasn't called God's Wonderful Railway for nothing, these Kings had such presence in the flesh but I never worked on one in my time on the railway being employed on the grimy Midland Region. I try not to make my paintings too photographic as I think it can rob them of a certain painterly quality if one isn't careful. Thanks for tweeting it, I don't know how it works but it can't be bad!

Great work !
Mike Jeffries replied:
Many thanks Sorin, the subject is a gift to any artist, but watch those wheels!
